Picking Women’s Fragrances

Selecting a perfume for yourself or the woman in your life can be an intimidating job. The sheer number of women’s fragrances has continually increased for years, and an ever growing number of celebrities feel a need to enter the market. It seems that even if you find a scent you like it doesn’t stay available. When looking at women’s perfumes you have a few things to consider.

Fragrances come in different families based upon their dominant scent. Floral scents incorporate one or more flower. Green scents tend to come from woody plants. Oceanic/ozone perfumes are often androgynous, with a clean modern smell. Citrus or fruity scents are self explanatory, but new to the market as techniques that hold these usually elusive scents have improved.

Additionally, not all perfumes are created equal. Different products have more or less essential oils in the mix; the more oil, the more intense the smell. At the top of the line is Perfume, with 15-40% aromatic compounds. Below that is Eau de Perfume with 10-20% aromatic compounds. Next is Eau de Toilette, containing between 5-15% organic compounds, Eau de Cologne with 3-8% and finally Body Splash with 1-3% of aromatics. If you want something that will last longer and provide a stronger scent, pick towards the front of the list and expect to pay proportionally for it.

If you are fortunate enough to know exactly what you want to purchase, consider buying online. Since online vendors rarely have to pay for storage space and customer service representatives, their costs tend to be lower making an expensive perfume more affordable for you. If you have no idea what you want you will have to spend some time at the stores. A good representative should be able to help point you in the right direction both in style and scent.
